Internet in Spain: eSIM and roaming for your itinerary
Opening a museum ticket in Barcelona, finding a meeting point in Madrid or messaging your next Andalusian hotel are small moments where mobile internet helps. The right option for Spain depends on your current plan and the way you travel, rather than on one package being best for everyone.
Check what you already have
Eligible EU/EEA plans may include roaming in Spain under fair-use conditions. Confirm allowances and exceptions with your carrier and the EU roaming information.
If your plan comes from elsewhere, do not assume equivalent terms. Compare total travel cost, available data and what happens after the allowance is used. A separate eSIM may be unnecessary if the existing plan meets your needs; otherwise it is one option to compare.
Allow for days spent moving between cities
An itinerary linking Madrid, Barcelona and Seville involves changing accommodation and several sets of travel documents. Save tickets and addresses the evening before travelling. Being able to open a booking app does not necessarily mean the ticket itself is available offline, so check the document in advance.
An overnight journey, an early flight and the trip home may also require data. Do not base validity only on the number of hotel nights. Read when and how the selected package’s validity starts.
Verify islands and cross-border side trips
If you are heading to Mallorca or the Canary Islands, inspect the selected product’s coverage details. Ask support using the island’s name if anything is unclear. Geographic proximity alone is not a reliable way to choose a plan.
A side trip to Portugal, Andorra or Morocco requires a separate check of the country list. A Spain package does not automatically cover every stop on a wider holiday. Compare country-specific plans with multi-country options using your actual itinerary.
Keep daily usage manageable
Include video, photo backups and internet sharing alongside maps, messages and reservations. Recent usage on your phone is a useful starting point. If large uploads should wait for accommodation Wi-Fi, review automatic backup settings before departure.
Check your device before purchasing, save the installation instructions and select the intended mobile-data line at arrival. If you need a phone number, conventional calls or SMS, review those features separately from the data allowance.
